Directions: Once arriving at Motomachi Chukagai, make sure to leave the station via Exit 5. Turn left and walk down the main shopping street for one block. When you get to GAP, take a left down the side street so that GAP is now on your right side. You should see Slow Cafe directly in front of you at the end of the street where the road forks.

I had seen Slow Cafe numerous times before during my trips to Motomachi Chukagai but finally got a chance to check it out with a friend on my most recent trip down there. It’s in a fantastic location, based in the Western inspired shopping area of Motomachi Chukagai which itself is just several minutes from Yokohama’s Chinatown.

The cafe itself is fairly Western with 100% no smoking inside and the choice of outdoor seating. The cafe has a very relaxed atmosphere and despite the name, we found the service to be very fast and genuinely friendly.

25 Cafes in Yokohama Japan: Slow Cafe in Motomachi Chukagai, Yokohama There’s a great selection of food available with very satisfying serving sizes. The menus are in English and Japanese and while there’s the odd humourous English mistake in the menu, it’s completely legible.

A basic lunch set with food and drink will set you back around 1000 yen and there’s also a variety of cakes and other desserts to choose from for around 500yen+. As an added bonus they also serve a variety of beers and wine as well, making this a good choice to come to in the afternoon after a day of shopping and sightseeing.

If by chance you happen to have a dog, Slow Cafe is dog friendly and encourages customers to bring their dogs with them when they visit which I’m sure is welcome for those who are tired of being stuck in the city with their pup and no place to eat. Recommended.
