Del Rey Chocolatier Antwerpen in Tokyo, Japan

25 Cafes in Tokyo Japan: Del Rey Chocolatier Antwerpen Chocolate Cafe in Omotesando Tokyo

I had honestly never heard of Del Rey Chocolatier Antwerpen before (the first thing that came to mind when I saw the words “Del Rey” was the publishing company) but my friend who I came with was quick to inform me that the brand is in fact very famous and very well respected worldwide.

Turns out they’re a Belgian company that started soon after World War II and are well known for their high quality chocolate the world over with several branches in Belgium and since 2004, four in Japan. Strangely the Japanese website only lists three locations within Japan, a store in Ginza, this cafe and store in Omotesando and another cafe/store in Fukuoka.

It is a rather elite cafe so expect to pay much more than what you would elsewhere. We were a bit shocked to see that there was no option to order menu items separately. Even coffee and tea needed to be ordered as part of a set. Me and my friend both ordered the cheapest set (which set us back around 1200 yen 25 Cafes in Tokyo Japan: Del Rey Chocolatier Antwerpen Chocolate Cafe in Omotesando Tokyoeach. Other sets hit the 4000 yen range) and contained a small cake, one piece of chocolate and your drink.

While I’m sure the quality was high the price for product was a bit of a disappointment and unless you’re well versed in chocolate tasting and subtleties I would recommend you spend your time at the nearby La Maison Du Chocolat Paris for your chocolate fix, which has a much warmer atmosphere and better value for money.
